As an immigration attorney, Amanda J. Bernardo has won asylum for refugees, empowered victims of domestic violence, given hardworking men and women with criminal records a second chance, saved countless families from deportation, and legalized the status of even more. She has also helped ensure immigrant workers get the pay and position they deserve for their skills, expand businesses, and secure immigration benefits based on foreign investment. At Brandes & Associates, LLC, a boutique immigration firm in downtown Manhattan, Amanda specializes in complex immigration matters involving removal proceedings, criminal convictions, and fraud. Amanda sees first-hand how people of various nationalities experience the immigration system. She is committed to using her legal expertise to ensure that her clients are empowered and informed as she guides them through that system.
Amanda received her Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School in 2012. She is the Co-Chair of the Immigration Committee of the Asian American Bar Association of New York and of the Public Relations Committee of the Filipino American Lawyers Association of New York. She is a speaker on immigration law, especially given her experience representing detained immigrants and immigrants with criminal issues. Recently, she collaborated with Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and Filipino-American Pulitzer-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas to educate immigrant communities on their rights under the Trump Administration. She graduated from American University summa cum laude with honors where she focused on Philippines and US migration.
