Michael J. Rhee
Michael joined The Durst Organization in 2012. As General Counsel, Michael handles the day-to-day legal affairs of The Durst Organization and its 1,200 employees. He is also closely involved with the company’s acquisition, construction, development, financing and leasing activities.
The Durst Organization, founded in 1915 by Joseph Durst, is the owner, manager and builder of 13 million square feet of premiere Manhattan office towers and 1,950 residential rental units with 3,400 in development. The Durst Organization is recognized as a world leader in the development of high-performance and environmentally advanced commercial and residential buildings.
Prior to joining Durst, Michael was Special Counsel in the real estate department at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. He began his legal career at Battle Fowler LLP and spent 14 years in private law firm practice.
Michael was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Staten Island, the son of hardworking Korean immigrants. He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree and he served as President of the Cornell Korean Students Association during his undergraduate years. He went on to graduate from St. John’s University School of Law, where he was Articles and Notes Editor for the St. John’s Law Review.
Michael is on the Board of Governors of the Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York (KALAGNY) and he received a 2017 Trailblazer Award at KALAGNY’s 31st Anniversary Gala.
Michael regularly supports the annual Korean American Community Foundation Golf Classic. When not slicing golf balls into the woods, he enjoys running and spending family time with his wife and daughter.
